Walking and driving instructions

Girrakool Waterfall is roughly a 1hr10 minutes’ drive away from Sydney, or just 15minutes’ from Gosford town centre. From Sydney travel north on the M1 (roughly for 1h). Take the Central Coast Hwy/A49 exit from M1, then slide left onto B83 and follow it for the next 2.5km. Turn left onto Girrakool Rd and follow it until you reach the official Girrakool Picnic Area (650m). The road is a sealed one.

The car park is huge, PAID (8$ as per 2019) and has all sorts of facilities, including toilets, BBQ, picnic tables and track’s signs.

From the parking follow a well-maintained Girrakool Loop (clock-wise). Within 10 minutes of walking you will reach the top of cascade (stunning short waterfalls, roughly 6m total drop), then within a few more minutes you will reach the top of the actual waterfall. Important: cross the river here! (if you don't cross the river, you will end-up doing 4km Piles Creek Loop) and follow the signs saying 'Bundilla Lookout', which offers the best view of the waterfall.

Return to the main loop (you've done a half of it) and continue the walk to see one more waterfall -  Andamira Waterfall. Total walking time is about 40 minutes.

Note: Faster option to see Girrakool Waterfall only - there is a short-cut track from parking leading directly to the waterfall. Total walking time is about 15 minutes.

Girrakool Waterfall is a permanent waterfall, but best to visit is after decent rain. The upper cascades are a great place for summer swim.

Note: if you wish to walk a longer track - Piles Creek Loop, then you will see one more waterfall, roughly in the middle of the loop. IT's very tall, but covered by trees, so we haven't managed to take a photo of it. With care, you can walk to its base. There is a great swimming hope not far from this waterfall.
