Walking and driving instructions

Festoon Falls is roughly a 1hr 30 minutes’ drive away from Toowoomba, or 1 hour’ from Dalby. From Dalby travel north-east on Dalby Cooyar Rd for 25.7km. Then turn left onto well signposted Bunya Mountains Rd and follow it for the next 34km. Last 15km is a typical winding road, so be careful. Then turn right onto Bunya Ave which in 750m brings you to Dandabah car park. The road surface is sealed.

The car park at the end of the road has all sorts of facilities, including i-Site, café, toilets, picnic tables and even a campsite.

Festoon Falls and Tim Shea Falls are found along Scenic circuit – 4 km, 1hr 20min.

From the parking follow a well signposted and easy to navigate Scenic circuit (anti-clock-wise direction). Roughly in 15-20 minutes you will reach Festoon Falls (signposted). Mcgrory Falls is found downstream from Festoon Falls (only top of the falls can be seen).

From here, either return to car park via the same route (total walking time 30-40 minutes), or continue to walk the track as a loop. In roughly 20 minutes you will reach Pine Gorge Lookout, and 20 more minutes and you will reach Tim Shea Falls (signposted).

Continue to walk the circuit, and you will reach the parking in 20 minutes. Total walking time is 1hr 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, the track to the waterfall has been closed. We don’t recommend to take this walk, please keep to the official track. Check current status of the track here.

Festoon Falls can dry out completely. Best time to visit – after decent rain, or Jan to Mar.
