Walking and driving instructions

Cameron Falls is roughly a 50 minutes’ drive away from Gold Cost, or 1hour 10minutes’ from Brisbane. From Gold Coast travel north on the M1. Take the Pacific Motorway exit from M1 and head west on the SR 95 (Tamborine Oxenford Rd) until you reach North Tamborine village (31km). Then turn left onto Geissmann Dr (village centre), then turn right onto Main St which becomes Knoll Rd. Sandy Creek Picnic Area car park is on your left, 1.6km from village centre. The road is a sealed one.

The car park has a few dedicated spaces as well as all sorts of facilities, including toilets, picnic tables and BBQ. There are excellent views of Flinders Peak and Brisbane from the picnic area.

From the parking descend to the Sandy Creek. On the track’s junction turn right and walk the circuit in an anti-clock-wide direction. A set of stairs brings you to the cliff edge, then the path crosses the creek via a concrete bridge. A track leading to the Cameron Falls lookout branches from the main track immediately past the bridge. It is roughly 5 minutes’ walk to the falls lookout. You can see this tall waterfall from a distance.

From here, continue the walk as a loop. The track descends to the creek and follow it until you reach the track’s junction. Then walk back to the parking. Total walking time is about 1hr.

Cameron Falls is a permanent waterfall, but it might have little water in a dry season. Best time to visit – after decent rain, or Jan to Mar.

If you’re allowed to fly drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos.
