Walking and driving instructions

Fitzroy Falls is roughly a 2hrs' drive away from Sydney CBD, or 40 minutes' from Wollongong. From the Sydney or Wollongong head south on the M1. Slide right onto the A48/Terry St immediately after the bridge over the Macquarie Rivulet. On the intersection with Illawarra Hwy/A48 turn right and follow the main highway via Macquarie Pass for the next 27.5km. Then turn left onto Pearsons Ln/Tourist Drive 8 and follow it for the next 13km. Then slide right onto B73, and after 1.2km turn right to Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre (well signposted). There is a huge parking here. The road surface is sealed. Park entry fees: $4 per vehicle per day. Opening times: 9am to 5pm daily. Closed Christmas Day.

There are all sorts of facilities there, including Visitor Information Centre, cafe,  picnic tables, wheel-chair access, toilets, etc. The gates close at 5pm.

From the Visitor's Centre a wheel-chair friendly walking path (150m) brings you to the falls' top. It takes about 5 minutes to reach the waterfalls' top (main photo).

Another 5 minutes walk down the stairs, and you reach the viewing platform called 'Jersey Lookout' offering the best view of the falls - you can see both waterfalls: the main (top) falls and the lower cascade. Unfortunately, this part of the walk is not suitable for a wheel-chair.

Return via the same route.Total walking time is about 10 minutes (the upper lookout), or 20 minutes (Jersey Lookout).

If you are keen to make a longer walk, you might consider to walk East Rim Track, which has more upper falls lookouts along the way; or West Rim Track which offers a view of Twin Falls and Lady Hordern Falls (Renown Lookout).

Fitzroy Falls is a permanent waterfall; best to visit is after decent rain. Make sure it's not a foggy day, as the waterfall might not be seen at all!
