Walking and driving instructions

Apsley Falls is roughly a 2hr20 minutes’ drive away from Port Macquarie, or about 1hour’ from Armidale town centre. From Armidale head south-west on the A15 for 25km. In Uralla turn left onto Thunderbolts Way and follow it until you reach Walcha (42km). From Walcha travel east on the B56 for 18km. Then turn left onto well-signposted Apsley Falls Rd. You will reach Apsley Falls Picnic Area in 1.2km. The road is a sealed one.

The car park is huge and has all sorts of facilities, including toilets, picnic tables and track’s signs. There is a campsite nearby.

From the parking a well-established path descends to the main falls lookout. It takes just a couple of minutes to reach the main lookout. From here the path descends further to other lookouts. It is not a long walk – try them all to find the best view of the waterfall.

Return via the same route.

From the parking, Oxley Walk leads to the Lower Falls. If you have time, we would highly recommend to walk this track. You need to walk back along the road, then cross the Apsley River via a footbridge, and finally follow the river. The track offers great views of the falls, gorge and the river. Return walking time is about 1-1.5hrs.

Apsley Falls is a waterfall which might have little or no water at all during dry season. Ideal time to visit – late autumn, winter, early spring.

If you’re allowed to fly a drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos.
