Walking and driving instructions
Mihi Falls is roughly a 3hr30 minutes’ drive away from Port Macquarie, or just 30minutes’ from Armidale town centre. From Armidale head south on Dangarsleigh Rd for 9km. Then turn left onto well-signposted Dangars Falls Rd (next to Dangarsleigh Memorial) and follow it for the next 11km until you reach the Falls Picnic Area. The road is unsealed for the last 9.5km. The car park is huge and has all sorts of facilities, including toilets (non-flush), picnic tables, BBQ and track’s signs. There is a campsite nearby. From the parking, follow Salisbury Waters Track. Cross the river via a footbridge, then follow the river downstream. En route is Dangars Falls lookout (10-15 min from beginning of the walk). Continue on to the main trail, and in 20-35 you will reach a track’s junction – turn right onto Salisbury Track, and in 10-15 min turn right again onto Mihi Track, which in 20-40 minutes brings you to the Mihi Falls Lookout. The falls drops in multiple steps, and the third one seems to be the tallest and easiest to photograph. From here, you can return via the same route, or continue it as a loop. Total walking time is 2-3hrs. Mihi Falls is a waterfall which might have little or no water at all during dry season. Ideal time to visit – late autumn, winter, early spring. If you’re allowed to fly a drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos. |
