Morans Falls

Morans Falls

Morans Falls is, perhaps, the easiest waterfall to access in Lamington National Park. 1.5 hours return walk brings you to the upper falls lookout, then to its top.

Walking and driving instructions

Morans Falls is roughly a 1.5 hours’ drive away from Gold Coast. From Gold Coast travel north-west on the State Road 24 (Ashmore Rd) until you reach an intersection with SR 20 (Southport Nerang Rd). Turn left onto SR 20. SR 20 eventually becomes SR 90. Keep to the SR 90 until you reach intersection with SR 97 (Nerang Murwilumbah Rd). Follow SR 97 for the next 21.7 km, then turn left onto well-signposted Lamington National Park Rd. Follow this road for the next 34.8km until you reach a small car park, on your right, associated with Morans Falls Track (it’s located 700m before National Park official car park). The road is a typical sealed winding road, which sometimes becomes 1-lane only. Take extreme care while driving. This road is not recommended for caravans, but it’s ok for short campervans/motorhomes.

The car park has no facilities, but the official National car park (700m further away) at the end of the road has all sorts of facilities, including i-Site, café, toilets, picnic tables and even a campsite with hot showers.

From the parking follow Morans Falls Track (4.4km return). In roughly 30 minutes you will reach the upper lookout – you can take excellent pictures of the waterfall and the upper cascade from here. Now you can either return to the parking (1hr total walking time), or continue on to the main trail for 15 more minutes and reach the top of the waterfall. You will cross the Morans creek via a foot bridge, then you’ll get access to the falls’ top and will get awesome views of the valley. Return via the same route (total walking time is 1.5hrs).

Morans Falls is a permanent waterfall. Best time to visit – after decent rain, or Jan to Mar. If you’re allowed to fly drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos.
