Walking and driving instructions
Crows Nest Falls is roughly a 45 minutes’ drive away from Toowoomba, or 2hours’ from Brisbane. From Toowoomba head north on the New England Hwy/A3 until you reach Crows Nest village (43km). Then turn right onto Three Mile Rd and follow it for the next 5.4km, then turn right onto a road which leads to the National Park. The car park is reached after 750m. The road surface is sealed. The car park is big and has all sorts of facilities, including toilets, picnic tables and BBQ. Paid campsite is also available here. From the parking follow Kauyoo Loop walk (quite flat, without any significant uphill/downhill sections) which brings you to the Cascades, then to Kauyoo Pool and then to Bottlebrush Pool. Finally, the path brings you to the Crows Nest Falls lookout. From here you can see the top of the falls only. The bottom of the waterfall, as well as the swimming hole, are not accessible without permit. Return via the same route, or continue the walk as a loop. Total walking time is about 45 minutes. Alternatively, from the Crows Nest Falls lookout you can extend your walk to the Koonin lookout. Total walking time is about 1hr 30 minutes return. Crows Nest Falls is a permanent cascade with excellent swimming holes, but during dry season it might become a trickle waterfall. Best time to visit – after decent rain, or Jan to Mar. If you’re allowed to fly drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos. |
