Walking and driving instructions
Coomba Falls is roughly a 1hr 30 minutes’ drive away from Toowoomba, or 2hr 45 minutes’ from Brisbane. From Toowoomba head north on the New England Hwy/A3 until you reach Kingaroy Cooyar Rd (98km). Then turn left onto Kingaroy Cooyar Rd and follow it for the next 10.5km, then turn right onto Coomba Waterhole Rd (not suitable for caravans) which leads to Coomba Waterhole car park. The car park is reached after 1.6km. The road surface is sealed. The car park is relatively big, but has no facilities. Take your rubbish with you. From the parking take an easy and well maintained walk which brings you to a large swimming hole at the base of Coomba Falls. The water is icy most of the time, so it’s quite cool place to chill out on a hot day. Return via the same route. The way back takes a bit longer because you need to walk up the stairs. Total walking time is about 15-20 minutes. Coomba Falls is a permanent cascade with excellent swimming holes at its base, but during dry season it might become a trickle waterfall. Best time to visit – after decent rain, or Jan to Mar. If you’re allowed to fly drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos. |
