Walking and driving instructions
Jourama Falls is roughly a 30 minutes’ drive away from Ingham or 1hr15min from Townsville. From Ingham travel 24.5km south on the A1. Then turn right onto well-signposted Jourama Falls Rd which soon becomes an unsealed road. Follow this road for 5.6km until you reach a car park at the end of the road. There are two creek fords en route which could be impassable after heavy rain. The car park doesn’t have any facilities. But there is a nice campground 400m away from the parking, which has all sorts of facilities, including shower, toilets, BBQ and picnic tables. Also there is a day-use area nearby, which has toilets, BBQ and picnic tables. From the car park follow a well-established walking path, which is flat and easy. In roughly 20 minutes you will reach the base of the waterfall, however only the lower leap is seen from here. To get the full view of the waterfall you will need to climb to the upper lookout platform. This part of the track doesn’t have any trees, so could be quite challenging under shining sun – make sure you’ve got plenty of water and your head is covered. The upper viewing platform provides an awesome view of the full waterfall – 5 steps (leaps) in total. Return via the same route. Total walking time is about 1hr. There are great swimming holes at the falls base as well as at the base of each leap. Don’t forget a towel :) Jourama Falls is a permanent waterfall. Beautiful all year round. |
