Walking and driving instructions
Cataract Falls is roughly a 1hr30 minutes’ drive away from Sydney, or just 3minutes’ from Lawson town centre. From Sydney head west along the M4 which becomes A32 until you reach Lawson (roughly 1h20minutes). Then turn left onto Honour Ave and follow it for 1.1km until you reach 'South Lawson Park' car park. The road is a sealed one. The parking (to your right) is a reasonable size one, but has no facilities other than a map-board with additional information. Alternatively, you can take a train from Sydney to Lawson and walk 1.1km to the track's starting point. From the car park start the Waterfall Loop Walk (clockwise) which is a fire trail for first 10-15 minutes. Then you reach one more car park (you can start your walk from here) wich has a picnic table. A few more minutes and you reach the top of the Cataract Falls. There are 2 access points - first is in the middle of the falls, and the second one is at its base. The waterfall is very tall, but quite difficult to photograph. From here either go back (the second car park: 20min total walking time; the first car park: 40 minutes), or continue to see 3 more waterfalls (total walking time is about 1.5-2hrs). Cataract Falls is a permanent waterfall, but best to visit is after decent rain. Ideal time to visit – late autumn, winter, early spring. |
