Walking and driving instructions
Josephine Falls is roughly a 30minutes’ drive away from Innisfail or 1hr10min from Cairns. From Innisfail travel 20.5km north on the A1. Then turn left onto well-signposted Bartle Frere Rd and follow it for the next 3.6km, then turn right onto Price Rd and follow it for the next 3.2km. Then turn right onto Josephine Falls Rd. There is a car park at the end of the road (650m). The road surface is sealed. The car park is huge and has all sorts of facilities, including a shelter, toilets, coin-operated BBQ and picnic tables. From the car park follow a well-maintained and wheelchair-friendly walking path, which brings you to the Upper Viewing Platform. This platform offers you a great view of the top tier of the falls (there are three tiers in total). Unfortunately, swimming is prohibited at the top falls pool. From here either return to the parking (wheelchair), or go back to the walks’ junction and walk down the wooden stairs which bring you to the bottom of the second tier of the falls. Bottom pool as well and the base of the third tier is accessible via the second side track. You can swim here safely. Return via the same route. Total walking time is 30 minutes. Josephine Falls is a permanent waterfall. Beautiful all year round. |
