Walking and driving instructions

Big Falls is located about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Toowoomba, or approximately 1 hour from Dalby. From Dalby, head northeast on Dalby Cooyar Road for 25.7 km, then turn left onto the well-signposted Bunya Mountains Road. Follow this road for the next 34 km. Be cautious on the final 15 km, as it is a typical winding mountain road. After that, turn right onto Bunya Avenue, which leads to the Dandabah car park in about 750 metres. The entire route is sealed.

The Dandabah car park offers a full range of facilities, including an information centre (i-Site), café, toilets, picnic tables, and even a campground.

Big Falls, along with Paradise Falls, Little Falls, and Tim Shea Falls, is part of the Barker Creek Circuit—a scenic 10 km loop walk that takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours to complete.

To begin, follow the well-marked Barker Creek Circuit in a clockwise direction from the car park. You’ll reach Paradise Falls in about 45 to 60 minutes, followed by Little Falls just 5 to 10 minutes later. About 10 to 15 minutes beyond Little Falls, a side track leads to the Big Falls lookout—an additional 10-minute walk from the junction. Note that Big Falls only flows after significant rainfall.

After visiting Big Falls, return to the main trail and continue the loop to reach Tim Shea Falls before finishing your walk.

Alternatively, the circuit can also be started from Paradise Car park.

Keep in mind that Big Falls may dry out completely during dry periods. The best time to visit is after good rainfall, particularly between January and March. If drone flights are permitted in the area, aerial views can offer fantastic photo opportunities.
