Walking and driving instructions
Big Falls is roughly a 1hr 30 minutes’ drive away from Toowoomba, or 1 hour’ from Dalby. From Dalby travel north-east on Dalby Cooyar Rd for 25.7km. Then turn left onto well signposted Bunya Mountains Rd and follow it for the next 34km. Last 15km is a typical winding road, so be careful. Then turn right onto Bunya Ave which in 750m brings you to Dandabah car park. The road surface is sealed. The car park at the end of the road has all sorts of facilities, including i-Site, café, toilets, picnic tables and even a campsite. Paradise Falls, Little Falls, Big Falls and Tim Shea Falls are found along Barker Creek circuit – 10 km, 3-4hrs. From the parking follow a well signposted and easy to navigate Barker Creek circuit (clock-wise direction). Roughly in 45-60 minutes you should reach Paradise Falls, then in 5-10 minutes’ Little Falls. A side-track which leads to Big Fall is roughly 10-15 minutes’ further walk from Little Falls. This side track brings you to the Big Falls lookout (10 minutes’ walk from the tracks junction). Big Falls flow after a good rain only. From here, go back to the main track and continue to walk it as a loop and visit one more waterfall - Tim Shea Falls. Total walking time is 3.5-4 hrs. Alternative start of the track: Paradise Car park. Big Falls can dry out completely. Best time to visit – after decent rain, or Jan to Mar. If you’re allowed to fly drone near this waterfall, then you will be able to take best photos. |
