Walking and driving instructions
Araluen Falls is roughly a 1 hour’ drive away from Mackay. From Mackay head west along the State Route 70, then turn right onto the State Route 64. After 58km of driving, in Finch Hatton turn right onto Peoples St, which becomes Gorge Rd. Follow this road for the next 8.6km until you reach the end of the road. The road surface is un-sealed for roughly last 2km. The car park, at the end of the road, has toilets and an information board. From the Finch Hatton Picnic Area follow a well-signposted and more or less easy walking track which leads to the base of Araluen Cascades. After 20-25 minutes of walking, you reach a turn-off leading the the Araluen Falls. Keep to the left, and you will get to the falls after 5 minutes of further walk. The falls consists of 2 leaps, 5-7m each, and it's a very popular swimming hole. Don't forget a towel. Return either via the same route (2.8km return; total walking time is about 1hr), or continue along the main trail to visit Wheel of Fire Falls (total walking time is about 1.5-2hrs). Araluen Falls is a permanent waterfall. Best time to visit - Feb-Mar. |
