Walking and driving instructions
Olinda Falls is roughly a 50minutes’ drive away from Melbourne (when there is no traffic). From Melbourne head east on the M3. Exit on Ringwood Bypass. Travel east on Ringwood Bypass, which becomes Mt Dandenong Rd, for 11.2km. Turn left on C401, then on round-about turn right onto Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd/C415 and follow it for the next 8km. Turn left onto Falls Rd. A well-signposted car park is reached in 1.1km and is on your left. The road surface is sealed. Note: if you are driving on Falls Rd from the south (e.g. from Sherbrook Falls), Falls Rd is an unsealed until Olinda Falls Reserve. The car park has all types of facilities, including toilets and picnic tables. From the parking, walk downhill for 5-10 minutes until you reach a track’s junction. Here turn right (follow Olinda Falls signs), then you will reach one more intersection: the track leading to the upper falls is on your right, and to the lower falls is on your left. The lower falls track is closed, so keep to the right one. A set of stairs brings you to a viewing platform. The walk takes 10-15 minutes. Return via the same route. The way back takes a big longer due to uphill section at the end. The waterfalls are permanent cascades. Must be really impressive after rains. |
