Walking and driving instructions

Belmore Falls is roughly a 2hours' drive away from Sydney CBD, or 1hr' from Wollongong. From the Sydney or Wollongong head south on the M1. Slide right onto the A48/Terry St immediately after the bridge over the Macquarie Rivulet. On the intersection with Illawarra Hwy/A48 turn right and follow the main highway via Macquarie Pass for the next 25km. Then turn left onto Meryla St (signposted), then turn right onto South St, and finally turn left onto Belmore Falls Rd. Follow Belmore Falls Rd for the next 8km, then slide left onto Belmore Falls Picnic Area (signposted). The car park is 500m away from beginning of this road. The last 3km is an un-sealed road.

Alternatively, you can arrive to the car park from the south (via Belmore Falls Rd either), in this case there is a 4-km of un-sealed road at the end, and a river ford which can be impassible after a heavy rain.

The parking has all sorts of facilities, including picnic tables and BBQ.

From the car park it is just a 2-3 minutes' walk down the stairs to the lookout platform. you will see the waterfalls from a distance. Total walking time is about 5-10 minutes.

A walking path along the fence (towards the falls) brings you to a closer lookout (5 minutes one way).

In a foggy day there is one more option to see the waterfall - either leave your car on a side of the road past the river crossing, or safely cross the river (do not attempt the crossing if the river is in flood!) and walk along the river towards the falls' top. There is an official track and lookout here (the main photo is taken from this lookout). Total walking time from the river ford is 5-7 minutes.

Belmore Falls is a permanent waterfall. Best time to visit - after a decent rain. Make sure it's not a foggy day, as the waterfall might not be seen at all!
