Walking and driving instructions
National Falls is roughly a 1hr10 minutes’ drive away from Sydney CBD. From the city center head south on the M1 then on the A1. In Waterfall, roughly in 44km, take McKell Ave Exit (has 'Royal National Park' sign). Follow this road for 2.9km. A signed car park, to your left, is on the side of the road. The road is a sealed one. Park entry fees: $12 per vehicle per day. The parking has no facilities (nearest toilet is in Waterfall) other than a waterfall' sign board. The parking spot (a few cars) as per the end of 2018 was is a poor condition with a few holes - take extra care and drive slowly. Access to the top of the falls is an easy 1-minute' walk from parking. You will see a short cascade (as per the Gallery) and a top of the upper falls from a distance. Walk to the end of the parking towards the beaches until you see a sign 'Upper Falls', from here a set of stairs leads to the base of the upper falls. The top of the lower falls is seen from the end of this track, but highly unfortunate the base of the second falls is not officially accessible any more. Somewhere in the middle of the track look for a side-track. This side track will bring you to the upper falls and you can walk behind the waterfall. Be careful, as this track is slippery! Return via the same route.Total walking time is about 10-15 minutes. National Falls is a permanent waterfall; best to visit is after decent rain. |
