Walking and driving instructions
Stoney Falls is roughly a 10 minutes’ drive away from Halls Gap Town Centre, or 45 minutes from Dunkeld, or 1.15 hours from Hamilton. From Halls Gap Town Centre head north on the C216. On the junction with C222, turn left and follow it for the next 2.3km. Then turn left onto Wonderland Rd and stay on it for the next 1.2km. The road surface is sealed. A massive car park is located at the end of the road. Toilets are available here. From the parking, follow a well-signposted Splitter Falls track: turn left, then descend to the Stoney Creek, cross the creek. According to the maps, there is the Stoney Falls near the crossing. We would not call them falls, but cascades. There are at least two cascades. The upper one (shortest) – seen from the crossing, and the lower one – cross the creek and follow the track for 2 minutes, then you can see the lower cascade from a distance. From here, either return (20 minutes total walk), or continue on to the main trail downstream which leads to Splitter Falls (40 minutes total walk). We highly recommend on the way back return via Grand Canyon. 5 minutes prior arrival, turn left (signposted) to a track leading to Grand Canyon, walk the loop here and return to the car park. This side track will add 5-10 minutes to your journey. |
